There are several exciting events coming up in the next month, which can make a significant impact on senior citizens in Portage County. The first one is on Oct. 15. This will be an opportunity for all of us to make a donation to S.O.S, (Support Our Seniors) fundraising campaign.
The Portage 50+ Community Committee and the JFS Unified Committee...
If you want help seniors (me for example) please vote no on all property tax levies. We can’t afford anymore. And then sign the petition to eliminate property taxes so that is on the ballot next year. AXOHTAX.com
I don’t agree that property taxes should be completely eliminated. I do think property taxes needs serious and thoughtful discussion. It is a very complicated issue and requires hard work and will take months if not years to resolve. Completely eliminating property taxes will have disastrous consequence’s. People are just “jumping on the bandwagon” without considering the depth of the issue. I for one want good schools, good roads, a responsible fire and police department and all the other things our taxes provide. I don’t want my social security earnings taxed. I don’t want higher gas tax. I don’t want the sales tax increased exponentially. Think clearly and considerately before “jumping on the bandwagon” of eliminating property taxes! Reform yes!
The lawmakers never would have passed the crumbs they called property tax reform if it wasn’t for the Axe the Tax movement. If it passes next year they will still have another year to figure out cuts and other ways to fund things other than property taxes. Stop taking our homes for unconstitutional taxes. Spread out the tax burden, homeowners can’t afford it anymore.
Is that genuinely & legitimately true? Would lawmakers have passed more than ‘crumbs’ for property tax reform, if not for a movement that had very, very minimal tread? I don’t know that such statement rests in fact more than opinion. The reason they very well passed ‘crumbs’ is because they’re dumbfounded as to how else to make the system work. It seems more likely they just babbled and talked about a concept they never truly had any intentions of following through with because they never had a plan in the first place as to who would answer the phone at the receiving end of a 911 call.
They did nothing for 30 years, even after property taxes were ruled unconstitutional. So yes I would say the AxOhTax movement had something to do with it. They’re scared they might have to actually do something.
