Portage County deputies hold woman for ICE after traffic stop

After an all-night search that began March 9, Portage County sheriff’s deputies detained a 33-year-old woman they claimed is in the country illegally and will turn her over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

What did the sheriff do wrong? They were stopped for expired plates. Determined to be in the country illegally. They resisted arrest and fled. She hid in the woods all night which was her choice. She should be held for ICE. She broke the law. I can assume they had no license or insurance on the car also.

The Portager is really putting a left leaning slant on a lot of stories. I enjoyed it a lot more when it first started as a place to get local news but lately it hasn’t been very balanced.

Tis interesting that you want “fair and balanced” yes, you have no problem with this statement? “I can assume they had no license or insurance on the car also.”

Do you think they did have insurance? Seriously?I hope they don’t have an accident with you. I never said I was fair and balanced. But the news should be if they want to be taken seriously.

None of us actually know if they were legal or illegal, licensed or not licensed. We are going off of heresay that the Sheriff posted about on Facebook - social medial - not full credit news source. Innocent until proven guilty, isn’t that the saying? Well, not anymore when you “assume they had no license or insurance on the car also”

I find it funny that you only believe a “full credit news source” when so many have written false stories to fit their agenda. I doubt we’ll hear the resolution to this case in the Portager unless by some miracle they ran from the sheriff and hid all night in the cold because they were innocent. That would be a story they would publish.

Thanks to the Portager for following up on this. I guess my assumptions were correct. Hopefully the sheriff will find the man.
