Ravenna did manage to pass their operating levy in May 2025, but admittedly did fail 3 times before getting it passed, and the one that did pass was for less millage then they originally asked for. It was quite frustrating for me, as a person who moved to Ravenna in my young adulthood to make a life.
Failure to pass school levies for struggling communities is a symptom of a much larger issue with our citizens completely lacking trust in public services. I wish our citizens would focus their ire on aspects of governance that do not involve arguably our greatest responsibility as a community - educating our children so they can be successful in the future.
Ravenna has it pretty rough, and this fall a renewal maintenance and buildings levy will be on the ballot. If this levy renews, Ravenna School District will be able to build a new elementary school wing off the the Ravenna High School. I am anxious that this frustration with government will thwart this renewal and keep Ravenna from solving their school building challenges for our future.
