Freedge and Mutual Aid, Free Food For All!

Hello dear neighbors,

Our Standing Stone Care Collective’s first major project addresses rising food insecurity here in Portage County. To do our part, we’ve come together to organize a Free Fridge project! This Freedge resides in its shelter right beside Bent Tree Coffee Roasters and Taproot Catering. It will forever be free and open to all! Right now, there are dozens of premade sandwiches in the fridge/freezer and so much frozen fruit! Take what you want, gift what you can.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Freedge project, it works similarly to Little Free Libraries, where anyone can drop off or pickup food. This project is an example of direct action through mutual aid, wherein we come together to freely help each other despite all the forces keeping us apart and powerless; in short, we take care of us!

Anyone can use this Freedge, and we invite anyone to organize alongside our Care Collective to work side-by-side in taking care of this Freedge. Please reach out through a direct message if you would like to plug into this work.

In solidarity,

ezdris deares, alongside our Standing Stone Care Collective

This is amazing! I love that people are coming together, seeing a need, and then coming up with a way to meet that need!
