Data Centers.........Why not regulate them to our advantage

Every one always wants to stop all new progress. If there are issues with a Data Center other than the fact they bring jobs and income and more business to the community, why not address the issues. How about making it a requirement that they install large solar arrays in their construction plans to offset the drain on the grid. Or be made to install large wells and process their own water?

They create primarily temporary jobs for the construction portion. Then they only employ about 10-100 workers after that. They are not significant job creators long-term.

It takes more than a few wells to provide the water these data centers suck up. They can use anywhere from 300,000 gallons to 5+ MILLION gallons PER DAY. There are other ways to cool these down besides using our water resources and data centers should be forced to use those methods

They are receiving tax breaks they don’t need and then they don’t generate any real value for the communities they are in. Until we get more serious about adopting renewable energy, forcing data centers to use renewable energy and alternative cooling methods, and we have some guardrails on these AI companies and the data they are getting from all of us, there should be a moratorium on them in Ohio. This has all moved very fast and I dare say many of our elected officials have maybe a surface level understanding of AI & data centers at best. They need to spend more time learning about the environmental impacts, how data is protected and used, and should be taxing these multi-billion dollar companies and using that money for schools and other community needs.
