Captain Brady Day is back. Last held in 2007, it was a small neighborhood festival: local residents selling homemade crafts from card tables, a grainy slideshow of the village’s heyday as a tourist destination and other low-key attractions.

I loved Captain Brady Day. Glad to see it return like a Phoenix out of the lake. It had an old-time community feel to it. I liked playing in the parade band with Andy Cohen, seeing the family-made floats, and listening to live local music, some of which was top notch. I usually had a display about Captain Brady’s life in a tent by the beach. And the cardboard boat races were a hoot! Many leaky boats were made, but laughter abounded as people tried to paddle their way across the shallow part of the lake.
I also have fond memories of Captain Brady Day: the music, history, artwork, parade, and spending time with my many wonderful neighbors! I still have a trophy that I won for placing second in an across-the-lake swimming race. –Rick
